If you purchased a domain name through Bluehost, there are two ways to point your domain. The first option is to point your name servers to DNS, our premium DNS service. If you prefer to use Bluehost’s DNS, another option is to point A records and CNAME records from Bluehost.

Before you can point to your Bluehost A record, you first need to find your website’s IP address. If you are adding an A record for a non-site or service and you already have your IP address, you can skip to the next section.
To find your site’s IP address, go to Sites > [Your Site] > About Me and look for ‘Site IP Address’ under ‘Basic Details’. This is the IP address of your Bluehost A record.

To get started, go to the “Domains” page in your Bluehost dashboard and click the Manage button next to the domain you want to add an A record to.
Next, you’ll need to configure the host record, target(s), and TTL for your Bluehost A record.
If you are configuring an A record for your root domain (eg life.com), use “@” for the “Host Record” field in Bluehost’s DNS Manager. If you are setting up an A record for a subdomain (such as awesome.life.com), use the subdomain for the host record.
In the “Points To” box, enter your website’s IP address. If you are not setting up a record for your website, use your server’s IP address instead.

Finally, click Save to complete the configuration. Once your Bluehost A list is created, it may take 24-48 hours for it to spread globally.
Now that you’ve set up an A record for your root domain, you may need to add a CNAME record as well.

Next, you’ll need to configure the host record, target (digits), and TTL for your Bluehost CNAME record. CNAMEs are useful for various purposes such as aliasing www domains to non-www domains and domain authentication for email authentication.
In the “Host Record” field, enter the subdomain details for your CNAME record. In the screenshot below we are configuring the CNAME record
Finally, click Save to complete the configuration. Once your Bluehost CNAME record is created, it may take 24-48 hours to promote it globally.
